A friendly welcome awaits you Au Jardin Clos, where I have the pleasure of accompanying you on a wine tasting journey of Burgundy accompanied by local specialties. Adjacent to our old stone house, the enclosed garden is overlooked by the imposing Cathedral of Saint Etienne, making it an ideal retreat for tasting and understanding the wonderful wine of the region.

Following the sale of our country house hotel in December 2021; Hôtel Les Grands Chênes in Saint Fargeau, we decided to embark upon a new life in the charming, medieval town of Auxerre.

Our house, an old stone dwelling and a fine example of a maison Bourgeois in its day, lay in total dereliction. It became our project and labour of love and over the last 18 months we have toiled and invested, to bring her back to her former glory.

How did the Tasting Room come about ?
As a hotelier we hosted a lot of American groups. I organized regional wine tastings of Sancerre, Chablis, Irancy and Coulanges La Vineuse.

These wine tastings inspired me to learn more about Burgundy wine in general and the 6 wine growing regions from Chablis, and l’Auxerrois in the north to the Mâconnais in the south.   The wealth of heritage associated with this remarkable terroir inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a 'cultural landscape' since 4th July 2015 encouraged me to take my knowledge of wine to another level*

The renovation project of the house alongside a project of promoting small independent wine makers from the greater Burgundy wine region became intertwined.
